Events in and around The Otways

As the seasons change, so do the events and activities that are available in the Otways region of Victoria, Australia. Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, or family-friendly fun, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are some of the most exciting events to look out for throughout the year:

Autumn:

- The Otway Oktoberfest: Held in the town of Colac in late April or early May, this festival celebrates all things German with live music, food, and of course, beer.

- Great Ocean Road Running Festival: Taking place in late May in Apollo Bay, this event offers a range of running and walking events along the stunning Great Ocean Road, with options for all fitness levels.

- The Otway Harvest Trail: Throughout the autumn season, you can take a self-guided tour of the region’s farms, wineries, and other food producers, sampling fresh and delicious local produce along the way.

Winter:

- The WinterWild Festival: This arts and culture festival takes place in Apollo Bay over several weekends in August, featuring a program of music, theatre, comedy, and more.

- The Otway Odyssey: This mountain bike race takes place in Forrest in late February, offering a challenging course through the region’s rugged terrain.

- The SnowFest at Forrest: In early August, the town of Forrest transforms into a winter wonderland with snow machines, ice skating, and other snowy attractions.

Spring:

- The Wildflower Walks: Throughout the spring season, guided walks are available in various locations throughout the Otways, highlighting the region’s diverse and beautiful wildflowers.

- The Apollo Bay Seafood Festival: This annual festival takes place in early November and is a celebration of the region’s incredible seafood, with cooking demonstrations, live music, and more.

- The Great Ocean and Otway Classic Ride: This road cycling event takes place in late September, with options ranging from a leisurely 40km ride to a challenging 160km route.

Summer:

- The Apollo Bay Summer Festival: This event takes place over several days in early January, with a program of music, food and drink stalls, and even a pet parade.

- The Otway Christmas Tree Festival: Throughout December, the small town of Gellibrand is home to a stunning display of Christmas trees, each decorated by locals and visitors alike.

- The Lorne Film Festival: Held in early January, this festival showcases the best of local and international short films, documentaries, and feature films.
